Mobile LIVE Streaming (Level 2) Gear Roundup!

Level 2 LIVE video means you’re using your phone, with some additions like an external microphone, lights, etc. It’s a good intermediate step between just using your phone, and making the step into Level 3 or 4 where you’re running input from a camera through a computer before sending it out to your audience. Level 2 can be very budget-friendly and lets you focus on one upgrade at a time, like a better microphone or better lights.

Here are all the things we talked about on the show:

Beast Grip
iOgrapher
Saramonic SmartMixer
ALZO Cage
Manfrotto Tripod
Ztylus Z-Grip Phone Holder
DJI Osmo Mobile
Mevo
Godox LED Lights
RODE VideoMicGo
RODE VideoMicro
RODE VideoMic
AudioTechnica System 10
iRig Mic Lav
Vanguard Alta Pro Tripod

Do you have some favorite gear add-ons for your phone that we didn’t cover? Let me know about them in the comments!

What would happen if you put two directional mics on top for interview options? For instance, I am filming behind the camera and there’s a person I’m filming. Most of the audio will come from my subject but occasionally I need to say something. I find that the omnidirectional mics that come with the Saramonic don’t pick up as well if the subject is kind of far away. I want to use something more directional. Would two of the Rode directional mics work or would I get echo from the one that would point at my subject???
