Reaching out and meeting people in your professional community is vital to growing your business. Everyone knows that networking is the best way to open yourself to new opportunities… but it can be SO tough to do, especially if you are a bit of an introvert. Like I am. People are amazed that I’m an introvert, because I don’t seem that way. But in rooms full of people I don’t know, my shy definitely can come out!
Some people are introvert/extroverts, which seems like a contradiction, but I know there are people out there right now recognizing themselves in that description and nodding their heads!
One trick for beating shyness at events is to recognize that lots of people in the room feel the same way you do! So walk up to someone (who’s not already in a conversation!) introduce yourself, and admit that you’re a little uncomfortable. That breaks the ice and gets the conversation started. Go into an event with a goal for a number of people you’re going to talk to, then you’ll begin to know people in this group and you’ll start to see people at event after event that you already know!
