Let’s talk YouTube! Is it for recorded video? Is it for LIVE video? Is it best with a mix of both? We’ve got Derral Eves joining us, to share his tips on what works and what doesn’t on the internet’s biggest video sharing platform!
We hear a lot about the “YouTube algorithm”, but Derral stressed that it’s not just one algorithm, but LOTS of them, working together. The area Derral focusses on is discovery, which he says is the single biggest driver of growth in a channel. And different algorithms are applied to LIVE videos and recorded videos, so you need to do things differently between the two for the best results. As always, YouTube is trying to pair your content with the best audience. Content creators need to recognize that the LIVE and recorded audiences are different, and target differently.
One of his central messages is to have a real content release strategy for YouTube. Think about who you want to reach (not just “everybody”) and how you are most likely to connect to that audience. Once you know who you want to reach on YouTube you can begin doing specific things to achieve that.
If you liked what Derral has to say, you should plan to attend VidSummit, his conference on the business side of the video industry. I’ll be there, and I hope you will too!
